A record number of students flocked to Ball State University's football home-opener at the newly-renovated Scheumann Stadium Thursday.
The student section set a Ball State record for attendance at a football game with 7,875 fans packed into the east bleachers, despite the Cardinals' loss.

Few students come to Alumni-sponsored football festivities

The Ball State University Alumni Association held its pre-game rally at the Alumni Center before Thursday's football game, attracting prominent people, such as the NCAA President, but few students.
Ed Shipley, executive director of alumni programs, said the rally, which was attended mostly by Ball State alumni, was an hour before the game at the Alumni Center because it was a short walk away from Scheumann Stadium.

NCAA president says MAC matchups offer 'great football' games

As Ball State University opened its 2007 football season with a 14-13 loss to Miami University, 15,488 fans looked on, including a school record 7,885 students. Among the crowd was the President of the NCAA Myles Brand.
Brand, who said he goes to a college football game about half the weekends during the football season, said he was not in attendance because of the recent NCAA violations by the Ball State University athletic department.

Cardinals hope to bounce back from 2006 loss to Louisville

In the 2006 season the University of Louisville handed Ball State University its worst defeat of the year, winning 9-0. However, coach Annette Payne does not expect that result to play a role when Ball State plays host to No. 14 Louisville 3 p.m. today at BSU Turf Field.
