A Ball State University football player was released on $1,000 bond from Delaware County Jail after being arrested on charges of two Class C misdemeanors, according to jail officials.

Police arrested Kenny Meeks about 2:20 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and operating with a blood-alcohol content of .08 to .15 percent, according to jail officials. Meeks posted bond later that day, according to jail officials.

According to the Indiana Code, Meeks could receive up to 60 days in prison and a maximum fine of $500 if he is convicted.

Phone calls to football coach Brady Hoke and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins were unanswered Monday.

Meeks is entering his fifth year at Ball State. As a redshirt junior last year, he appeared in every game, including seven starts. Meeks was second on the team with four sacks and finished as the Cardinals' 10th-leading tackler with 39.

Following the graduation of former starting linebacker Mike Dorulla, Meeks is expected to be a full-time starter during the upcoming season.

Meeks' arrest is at least the fourth incident involving members of the Cardinals' athletics department being arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated during the school year.
