After a trying 6-24 season for the Ball State University men's basketball team, two freshmen who were recruited by the Cardinals' previous coach have elected to leave the program.

Freshmen Deontay Twyman and Rashaun McLemore have decided to attend other schools next season. Both were recruited by Ball State's former coach Ronny Thompson.

Neither the players nor coach Billy Taylor was available for comment.

Twyman was limited in minutes during the Mid-American Conference season, entering exclusively as the designated 3-point shooter in end-of-game situations. The Sandy Spring, Md., product scored his final points of the season in the Cardinals' loss at Illinois State University on Dec. 22.

McLemore started 17 games for the Cardinals and averaged 6.3 points per game during his first full season. The redshirt freshman from Richmond, Va., missed most of the 2006-07 campaign after suffering a broken wrist in practice after the sixth game of that season. McLemore's highest scoring output came in the Illinois State game as he netted a career-high 17 points.

The twin departures will open up two more scholarships for Taylor for the class of 2009. The Cardinals are left with six players returning next season, led by forward Anthony Newell.

Both players have three years of eligibility remaining but would have to sit out a year if they elected to attend another Division I school.
